The European Union welcomes the 8th amendment
PRESS RELEASE - Saturday, May the 29th, 2010
The representatives of EU member states Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, The Netherlands, United Kingdom and the European Union Delegation, as well of Norway and Switzerland, today issued the following statement:
“We welcome the political parties’ last minute agreement to extend the tenure of the Constituent Assembly for a further 12 months. We share the hope of the Nepali people that the difficulties of recent months can be overcome, and that the parties will now give fresh impetus to drafting the constitution on time.
“We emphasise the urgent need for the parties to work together, in the interest of the people of this country, in a spirit of consensus and do whatever it takes to implement the Comprehensive Peace Accord. We look forward to seeing a shared understanding of the renewed efforts and good faith required to do this.”
