Press statement by the MFA spokesperson (25 April 2006)
DAILY PRESS BRIEFING STATEMENTS MADE BY THE MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS SPOKESPERSON (Paris, April 25, 2006)
France notes with interest the new statement by the king of Nepal announcing the reinstatement of Parliament that was dissolved in 2002. The king’s statement comes in addition to his earlier pledge to name a prime minister designated by the alliance of seven democratic political parties. These intentions must now be followed by actions.
France also calls on the seven-party alliance to form the future Nepalese government in the spirit of consensus it has forged in the opposition.
France also notes the resolve of the political parties to declare a cease-fire with the Maoist rebels and calls on the latter to respond in the affirmative.
