Press statement by the MFA spokesperson (20 April 2006)
DAILY PRESS BRIEFING STATEMENTS MADE BY THE MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS SPOKESPERSON (Paris, April 20, 2006)
The situation in Nepal at this time is particularly worrying. In a country torn by armed conflict since 1996, the situation has continued to decline in the past year at a troubling pace. Once again, France, like its European Union partners, calls on the parties to renounce violence, respect human rights and fundamental freedoms, and begin negotiations for a return to peace, the only guarantee for the country’s stability and development.
Given the prevailing situation in Kathmandu and around the country, France formally advises its nationals against traveling to Nepal in the present circumstances.
