Mr. Erich W. Muller, Director of EuropeAid Asia visits Nepal to assess the cooperation situation in the country.
Mr. Erich W. Muller, the Director for Asia of the EuropeAid Cooperation Office (AIDCO) of the European Commission will be officially visiting Nepal from 21 to 23 June 2006. This is the first time an AIDCO official at Director’s level is undertaking a bilateral visit to Nepal.
The main objective of the visit is to assess the EC cooperation situation in Nepal. Series of meetings will also be undertaken to discuss major priorities and development challenges of Nepal.
Mr. Muller is scheduled to have meetings with the representatives of the Nepal Government (Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Education and Sports), government’s Peace Secretariat, the Election
Commission, civil society, the World Bank, the UN and other international agencies.
The EuropeAid Cooperation Office (AIDCO) was formally established in 2001 as a European Commission effort to reform the management of external aid. The mission of AIDCO is to implement the external aid instruments of the European Commission which are funded by the European Community budget and the European Development Fund.
Every year, the European Union provides over 7 billion euro in external assistance to more than 150 countries and territories to meet the daily challenge of improving lives worldwide by building long-term partnerships.
It should also be reminded that this is a second high-level European Commission visit to Nepal in less than a month. Mr. Hervé Jouanjean, Deputy Director General of the Directorate-General for External Relations of the European Commission (EC) visited Nepal on 1-2 June 2006.
