Memorandum of Understanding signed between Department of Mines and Geology and Institut de Physique du Globe de Paris. Kathmandu, 31st of october 2006
On the 30th of October 2006, Mr Nanda Ram Sthapit, director general of Department of Mines and Geology, Kathmandu, signed a memorandum of understanding previously signed by Mr Vincent Courtillot, director of Institut de Physique du Globe de Paris.
The common research program will essentially be concerned with the study and the research on the physical phenomena which could help the prediction of the earthquakes (studies based on the magnetic field of the earth, the chemical composition of the groundwater, the behaviour of the emission of the radon gas...).
A first scientific project will focus on the relationship between earthquakes and hot springs in Langtang area and will be lead by Mr Soma Nath Sapkota, chief of National Seismological Center and Mr Fréderic Perrier, professor at the University of Paris VII.
This MOU will strengthen the scientific collaboration between Nepal and France.
