EC and Nepal agree on horizontal air services agreement
Delegation of the European Commission to Nepal and the Government of Nepal initialed an aviation agreement in Kathmandu on 30 November 2007. Mr. Eduardo LECHUGA-JIMENEZ, the Chargé d’ Affaires of Delegations of the European Commission to Nepal, and Mr. Leela Mani Paudyal, Secretary of the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, initialed the agreement document. This agreement will restore legal certainty to the bilateral air services agreements between Nepal and EU Member States.
“The agreement is an important step towards further strengthening the EU-Nepal aviation relations and will encourage traffic between the EU and Nepal”. Mr. Lechuga said.
Mr. Lechuga, the Chargé d’ Affaires of the EC Delegation to Nepal, further emphasised, “The agreement will bring several provisions in the 7 bilateral air services agreements between EU Member States and Nepal in line with EU law. Most importantly, it will remove nationality restrictions in the bilateral air services agreements between EU Member States and Nepal and thereby allows any EU airline to operate flights between Nepal and any EU Member State where it is established and where a bilateral agreement with Nepal exists and traffic rights are available.”
