Bilateral relations

After the major earthquakes in Nepal on 25 April and 12 May 2015, France expressed its solidarity with the Nepalese people and government and took action to provide emergency assistance. France renewed its support during the floods and landslides in Nepal and India on 29 July 2016, which killed 90 and displaced nearly two million.

Economic relations

Our bilateral trade with Nepal was estimated at €24.5 million in 2015 (€31.5 million in 2014), with a trade surplus of €2 million for France (€13.1 million in French exports and €11 million in French imports in 2015). French exports are mainly in the fields of publishing and software, as well as the aviation industry (two Airbus A320 aircraft and eight Eurocopter “Squirrel” helicopters in 2013), while 80% of our imports from Nepal consist of textiles. French investment in Nepal is limited (stock of €800,000 in 2014) and concentrated in the hospitality and catering sectors.

Cultural, scientific and technical cooperation

The Alliance Française is the central pillar of our cultural and academic cooperation, with more than 800 French language learners. This cooperation and cultural action is supplemented by a bilingual French primary school with around fifty pupils.
