PRESS RELEASE
Completion of a 5-day training on fight against online sexual exploitation of children
Kathmandu, 16 September 2022
From 12 until 16 September 2022, a senior officer from the French Ministry of Interior’s Central Office for the Repression of Violence against Persons (OCRVP) provided training on fight against online sexual exploitation of children to about 20 Nepali investigators. The participants came from various police departments, including the Cyber Bureau, the Central Investigation Bureau, and the Women, Children and Senior Citizen Service Directorate.
The training focused on – but not limited to - the techniques of audition, especially of minor victims, of search for evidence (on the field or online) as well as on the emergence of the Darknet as a place of diffusion of Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM). Practical exercises were carried out to put the Nepali investigators in situation who showed great reactivity and solid knowledge. At the occasion, Deputy Chief of Mission Ms. Leela Devaradjalou recalled past collaborations between the Nepali and French authorities and said that trainings in matters of civil security/mountain search and rescue could be explored.
This third training of its kind comes in a context of long-standing cooperation between Nepali and French authorities in the fight against child abuse. Moreover, it echoes the seminar “Combatting sexual exploitation of minors online" that took place from 14 until 16 June 2022 in Paris and was organized by the OCRVP within the framework of the French presidency of the European Union. A senior Nepali police officer and the association SAATHI had participated in the seminar.
The success of this training within the Nepal Police augurs a fruitful continuation of the collaboration between the police forces of both countries for the years to come.
